The hyperfocal distance is the distance to focus a lens such that everything from infinity to the closest point to the camera is in acceptable focus. In situations where it is impossible to accurately pull focus, such as a run and gun shot, it can be a useful technique to set the lens to its hyperfocal distance, and maintain at least the minimum distance between the camera and subject.
